Back from Germany

Today we arrived in Belize City after our trip to Germany.

Thanks to our family and friends. We had a nice stay with 2 weddings (congratulations again to my sister an my cousin), several family reunions and nice invitations of our friends.
All of them gave us such a hearty welcome and for us it was like we had seen them only a few weeks ago. No feelings of distance or alienation.
Unfortunatly our visit lasted only 9 days. We couldn't stay longer because we want to apply for the permanent residency in Belize and one of the premises is that we're not allowed to leave the country in the first year for more than 14 days.

This time our air route was via Washington D.C. and Houston. We arrived at Washington International Airport in the evening and our connection flight was the next morning at 06:00 AM from the National Airport (needless to say that we'll never choose this connection again).
On Monday morning at 04:15 we stood bleary-eyed and with a jetlag in a looooong, looooong line in front of the counters.
When it was our turn, the Continental employee told us friendly but affirmatively that she couldn't check us in because we had no return ticket from Belize. All our explanations, that we have been living there since several months and that we are allowed to stay there as long as they extend our visa, didn't soften her up. We had to buy two tickets from Belize to Miami (400 $ each). Fortunately they were fully refundable.

After we overcame this hurdle it took us only a few more hours to come back to Belize.

Retrospectively we can say that we had a short but very nice trip and we're blessed with a wonderful family and marvellous friends.

Zurück aus Deutschland

Heute kamen wir wieder nach unserem Urlaub in Belize an.

Vielen Dank an unsere Familie und Freunde. Wir hatten einen schönen Aufenthalt mit zwei Hochzeiten (nochmals Glückwünsche an meine Schwester und meine Cousine), einige Familientreffen und nette Einladungen von unseren Freunden.
Alle hießen uns herzlich Willkommen und für uns war es, als ob wir sie nur wenige Wochen zuvor zuletzt gesehen hätten. Kein Gefühl der Distanz oder Entfremdung.

Leider dauerte unser Besuch nur 9 Tage. Wir konnten nicht länger bleiben, da wir in Belize die permanente Aufenthaltsgenehmigung beantragen wollen und eine der Voraussetzungen ist, dass wir im ersten Jahr das Land nicht länger als 14 Tage verlassen dürfen.

Dieses Mal ging unsere Flugroute über Washington D.C. und Houston. Wir kamen abends am Internationalen Flughafen Washington an und unser Anschlussflug war am nächsten Morgen um 06:00 vom Nationalen Flughafen (überflüssig zu sagen, dass wir diese Route nicht mehr wählen werden).
Am Montag Morgen um 04:15 standen wir mit Augenringen und Jetlag in einer laaaaaaangen Schlange vor dem Schalter. Als wir endlich an der Reihe waren, teilte uns die Mitarbeiterin von Continental freundlich aber bestimmt mit, dass sie uns nicht einchecken könne, da wir kein Rückflugticket aus Belize hätten.

Alle Erklärungen, dass wir dort seit einigen Monaten leben würden und wir im Land bleiben dürfen, so lange sie das Visum verlängern, konnten sie nicht erweichen. So mussten wir zwei Tickets von Belize nach Miami (400$ für jedes) kaufen. Glücklicherweise können wir uns diese komplett zurück erstatten lassen wenn wir sie nicht nutzen.

Nachdem wir auch diese Hürde genommen hatten, dauerte es nur noch ein paar Stunden, um zurück nach Belize zu kommen.

Rückblickend können wir sagen, dass wir einen kurzen aber sehr schönen Urlaub hatten. Wir sind gesegnet mit einer wunderbaren Familie und zauberhaften Freunden.
